Kelis1979年8月21日出生在纽约。她的父亲肯尼斯是爵士乐音乐家,母亲是位时装设计师。Kelis有着R＆B界“Alanis Morissette”之称,一方面，她极具个性，才华洋溢的创作才能以及爆发力十足的带劲演唱方式让人眼前一亮。另一方面，她又经常变换出性感诱人形象地让所有乐迷为她倾倒。

1999年发行首张专辑《Kaleidoscope万花筒》，备受关注，并为她赢得英国音乐奖“最佳国际新进艺人”和NME“最佳节奏蓝调女歌手”的奖项。崭露头角的Kelis 2000年在欧美各地巡回，其杰出表现受U2、Moby等乐坛大哥大盛赞，并获邀与Moby、Busta Rhymes、Foxy BrownUsher、Bjork、No Doubt及Neptunes等前辈合作。

第二张专辑《Wanderland》在英国有8万张销售成绩。2003年第三张专辑《Tasty》中的单曲《Milkshake》成为2004年英国年度畅销单曲前10名。2006年的专辑《Kelis was here》中首支单曲《Bossy》获得美国流行单曲榜第16名和节奏蓝调/嘻哈榜第11名的好成绩，即使新生代R＆B女歌手多如过江鲫，但Kelis亮眼的表现已被视为继TLC、Missy Elliott、Lauryn Hill及Macy Gray后最受瞩目的R＆B乐坛新星。
